Choosing and Dressing Banquet Tables

Banquet tables are indeed a versatile piece of furniture as you can find them in various situations ranging from a casual get-together to large formal social dinner events. In this article, I'll go over what different kinds of such tables you can get and look at the ways you can improve on their presentation.

These tables commonly are made from either plastic or wood. They tend to be designed to be relatively lightweight but still sustain a fair amount of weight. The reason for this is because a majority of situations in which such tables get used are on an occasional basis. For example, a room may be a multi-purposed function room so banquet tables are only brought out for certain events. Therefore, although wooden version of these tables tend to be heavier than the plastic variety, they are actually made from fiberboard, so they are still considerably lighter than solid hardwood such as mahogany.

Continuing on the theme of portability, you'll often find banquet tables can be folded. More specifically, the legs of the table fold inward towards the table top so you'll end up with a compact flat table ready for storage. In some cases, you can get tables which can fold in half which make the job of carrying the folded table much easier - that is, rather than needing 2 people to carry the table, one person could do the job.

There are a few different designs for the legs of the table. The three most common shapes are the wishbone, H-shape and the Roman II shape. The H-shape is fairly self-explanatory so I'll focus on the two remaining shapes. The wishbone legs are very similar to the forked bone that you find in turkeys and chicken - shaped like the letter Y. The legs become wider as they progress downward. The third mentioned type is shaped like the Roman representation of the number 2. All these legs are primarily found on rectangular banquet tables. The rounded tables on the other hand have four individually folding legs.

So if you are using banquet tables for a fancy event, perhaps in your local community hall or even outdoors in your backyard, what can you do to spruce things up? You could cover the tables with linen table cloths, which could be plain white or have themed patterns such as to symbolize Christmas or Thanksgiving. You can then add runners, a centerpiece for each table and any other appropriate decorations.
